Transfer Admissions Policy
Faith Lutheran High School has been established to serve young people of McHenry County. It admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, student aid, and other administered programs.
Our student body has several transfer students who have excelled at Faith Lutheran. This is particularly true for students who struggle in large classroom environments and students who have been bullied. The following transfer student policies have been enacted by the Faith Lutheran High School Board of Directors to ensure the safety of our students and to ensure that the investment a potential transfer family is making is a good fit for their son or daughter.
ALL Students who have already started 9th grade in a high school or home school environment are accepted on a provisional status for their first four full academic quarters at Faith Lutheran High School. Throughout the provisional period, the student's academic and social progress will be monitored and evaluated, with a decision made as to the student's continued enrollment at Faith Lutheran High School. At any point during the provisional period, the school administration reserves the right to expel a provisional status student for any reason.
These reasons may include but are not limited to: suspicion of alcohol or drug usage, disrespectful behavior towards staff members or peers, and lack of academic progress,. Any student who applies for admission to Faith Lutheran High School who has received disciplinary action relating to drug usage must show himself/herself to be reformed through a full-time rehabilitation program with no new incidents for a minimum of 6 months before provisional admission into Faith Lutheran High School will be considered. Failure of a parent or guardian to disclose any history of drug usage by their student will result in immediate expulsion and a loss of all payments made to Faith Lutheran High School.
Students must have satisfactorily completed grade eight or equivalent course work and make application to enroll on forms from either the school office or the school’s website. Upon receipt of the application, Faith Lutheran High School will request records from the previous school, and determine through consultation with the applicant, the parents, and school officials from the previous school if Faith Lutheran High School is the school to best meet the student’s particular needs. In order to be considered for transfer, parents must sign a consent form for all school official to disclose information about their son/daughter.
Acceptance decisions for Faith Lutheran High School are made by an admissions committee that consists of school administration and staff members. The student and the parent(s) will be asked to sign a covenant to validate a Christian perspective between the parents, the student, and the school. A placement test may be administered to potential students.
