Mrs. Laurie Mathiesen
Science, Art and Media Arts
Mrs. Mathiesen is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Union, where she is a member of WinGS and the financial committee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education, biology, and psychology from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and also has an Associates Degree in Applied Science in computerized graphic design and illustration from Elgin Community College. Mrs. Mathiesen lives in Marengo with her husband of 28 years, Chris, and their three children, all of whom are graduates of FLHS. She was formerly a science teacher and the head volleyball coach at Marengo Community High School.
Having been an original member of the FLHS staff, Mrs. Mathiesen has taught a variety of subjects at Faith from geometry to PE to health, but now she limits herself to teaching a variety of science and social science courses and a number of art courses. She has coached girls’ volleyball and basketball and has assisted with the spring plays in the past, but now spends her time advising the school newspaper, The Beacon, and preparing the yearbook. She is also the advisor for Hands and Feet for Christ, the school’s service organization. In her “spare” time, Mrs. Mathiesen enjoys photography, golf, fishing, reading and watching movies.
